Brazilian Elodea

Fast-Growing And Hard To Spot Until It’s Too Late

A fast-spreading species that thrives in lakes, ponds, and wetlands. This weed can root in shallow waters or float freely in deeper areas.

Curly Pond Weed

Curled Leaves That Form Dense, Murky Clusters

Fanwort

Spreads Quickly And Is Already Well Established Locally

First recorded in Ontario in 1991, it spreads rapidly and now affects lakes across the Trent-Severn Waterway. Early detection is key to control.

Hydrilla

Introduced Through Aquariums, It’s Tough To Contain

This aggressive species was introduced from aquarium use and spreads quickly. It forms dense tangles that impact movement and oxygen flow.

Parrot Feather

Grows Fast And Blocks Access To Shallow Areas

Found in slow-moving waters, this weed reproduces vegetatively. It can quickly clog shallow zones and disrupt dock access and swimming areas.

Starry Stonewort

Thick Mats That Crowd Out Native Aquatic Life

Now common in the Trent-Severn, this species forms thick mats that crowd out native plants and reduce water flow around structures.

Water Chestnut

Sharp, Aggressive, And Unsafe For Bare Feet

Feathery and deceptively soft-looking, this invasive plant forms deep underwater tangles. Left untreated, it limits oxygen and takes over large areas.
